City park development dollars will fund much of the project, but SPLWSA is obligated to raise a significant portion of the needed funds as well, both for itself and on behalf of the City. For more information on our vision, please see the Concept Design under Quarry Lake Information in the Downloads section of this Members web-site. [link] Right now SPLWSA is focusing on raising funds to make our vision reality, and waiting for the park project to rise higher on the City's priority list. Our status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization makes donations to SPLWSA tax-deductible up to IRS limits. You may remember that in 2008 SPLWSA was successful in gaining a $10,000 matching pledge from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC), restricted toward public improvements at Quarry Lake. This grant was in the form of a $10,000 pledge to be fulfilled as soon as SPLWSA could raise a second matching $10,000 amount in donations. The purpose of this memo is to inform you that we met this goal. During December, 2008, we held a Capital Campaign to raise funds to match this $10,000 pledge. We raised $6800 during that campaign. This spring, SPLWSA applied for and received a $5,000 grant from the Xcel Energy Foundation. SPLWSA received this grant at the July 7 Shakopee City Council Meeting. This grant from Xcel Energy put us over the top. So in sum we have received $6800 from members and other individual donors, $5,000 from the Xcel Energy Foundation, and $10,000 from the SMSC, for a total of $21,800 restricted for public improvements at Quarry Lake. Thank you very much to all SPLWSA Members who donated during our 2008 Quarry Lake Capital Campaign. We are also grateful both to the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and Xcel Energy for their generous support. This means SPLWSA has now raised a total of approximately $50,000 for Quarry Lake on our own behalf. In addition, SPLWSA has raised approximately $220,000 on behalf of the City for the Quarry Lake Project. Thanks again to all our donors. -- John Davis Quarry Lake Coordinator SPLWSA [Submitted by quarrylake1] Dock/Lift Fundraisernatsvela on Monday 21 September 2009 - 11:40:23 | Read/Post Comment: 0 Hi Quarry Lake and SPLWSA MembersThe SPLWSA as a whole is in danger of not meeting our budget this year if we do not take some action ... our Show related revenue is down, both due to the immediate economy and to long term trends, and, in addition, we have had some unanticipated but necessary expenses related to our boats in 2009. These two combine to require us to find additional ways to raise funds necessary to fund the annual operations of our Club. Trevor Pope has for several years had the idea of raising funds for the Club by removing/installing boat lifts and docks for people in the Prior Lake/Shakopee area. This would require three to four volunteer crews of about 5 or 6 SPLWSA Members each, who would agree to volunteer to work on a weekend or two in the fall and spring ... removing docks and boat lifts in the fall, and installing docks/boat lifts in the spring. Trevor has provided this service in the past ... he reports that the average payment is about $200 per job per season. If we were to get 25 installs or removals, that could lead to $5000 in revenue for our Club. 50 jobs would lead to $10,000 in revenue for the Club. Pretty good return for a couple weekends of work from a few crews of members. The purpose of this note is to determine whether you would be willing to participate with Trevor on such a work crew. Please consider volunteering. If you are willing, please let me know by replying to this e-mail. You may also contact Trevor directly at [email] If we find we have enough interest to fill out a Work Crew, you may hear from me again in order to spread the word to friends and neighbors that we are offering this service. Thank you, -- John Davis [Submitted by quarrylake1] Go to page >> |
